A BOROUGH church welcomed visitors to its tower as part of Wokingham’s Heritage celebrations.
A number of locations in the town opened their doors to the public last weekend, including St Paul’s Church, and Wokingham Town Hall.
All Saints Church in Norreys, Wokingham, which took part in the annual event, is hosting a week long exhibition.
Its newly renovated church building is filled with displays that illustrate a range of creative arts and processes.
Last weekend its tower door, normally reserved for bell ringers, was open for visitors to climb the steps and enjoy a birds eye view of the town.
“Everyone loves going to the top,” said All Saints event organiser Anne King.
“We had plenty of people who had been several times before, along with some who had never climbed a step of our tower.
“People have loved the exhibition, the cake, the views, and the hospitality.
“There is such a wide range of creative things to see and do.
“Our new building is wonderful, and everyone is delighted when they see it, but it’s great to be able to show visitors more than just a construction, and to highlight the activities and the people inside it.”
The theme of this year’s heritage celebrations is Creativity Unwrapped.
All Saints Church has mounted exhibitions on textiles, the history of the church, brick making, and church music, to show a wide range of creative skills.
Margaret Hendra and Judith Scott have demonstrated quilting and lace making, explaining the intricate procedures with visitors as they work.
Other exhibitions highlight the church’s historic past, its choir, its decorative textiles, and the recent improvements to the building.
