The Advocacy People is an independent charity, providing free and confidential support promoting equality and social justice.
Our advocates support among many others, people living with dementia, and people with physical or learning disabilities being cared for by the local authority.
When decisions are being made about a person’s health and social care, we make sure their rights are upheld and their wishes are represented.
We take time to find out who a person is, what they feel, and how they would like their life to be, and we help them to speak up for themselves.
Would you like to make a difference and learn new skills? Do you have a background or interest in Health or Social Care, and do you want to improve services? Can you listen, empathise, and communicate?
If yes, then becoming a Volunteer Advocate could be the right step for you.
You will play a vital role in providing one-to-one advocacy for vulnerable people, making sure that their views are put across.
You may be asked to; organise client visits, meet with the client at their place of residence, build a factual report based on your visit and submit the report to the local authority and participate in best interest meetings.
Throughout your time volunteering with us, you will be fully supported by an experienced advocate.
If you are interested in any of these roles or would like to discuss volunteering in general, please get in touch with our Volunteer Services Manager, Helena Badger on 0118 977 0749 or email volunteer@wok-vol.org.uk. To see all of volunteering roles, please visit www.volunteerwokinghamborough.org.uk
