VISITORS to Wokingham Town Hall at the weekend were able to find out about charitable organisations in the borough.
On Saturday 15 charities set out their stalls in search of volunteers to help support their work.
Groups included: ABC to Read, Berkshire Vision, Citizens Advice Wokingham, First Days Children’s Charity, Green ‘n’ Tidy Gardening Scheme, and Guide Dogs.
Healthwatch, Holt Copse Conservation Group, Homestart Wokingham District, Link Visiting Scheme, and Me2 Club were also there to explain how people could contribute to the community.
And with the addition of MS Society, Thames Hospice, Wokingham Community Transport Scheme, there was something for everyone.
Chief officer of Wokingham Volunteer Centre Nick Fellows, said: “The fair went very well.
“We were very pleased with feedback from the participating charities, and with the number of people who came to investigate.”
“People with a little extra time on their hands signed up to find out more about volunteering opportunities with a local charity of their choice.
“Lots of them had heard about the event beforehand, but others came inside on the day because they saw we were here.”
Taking part in charitable work is an opportunity to do something different, make friends, and give something back.
“Volunteering is as much about what it can do for the giver as for the charity,” continued Mr Fellows.”
“It can be very rewarding.
“If you missed the fair, but would like to get involved, it’s never too late.
