2019 candidates
Paul Fishwick, Liberal Democrat

I have lived in Winnersh for over 13 years with my wife Lesley, and recently retired following 43 years in local government working in Highways and Transport. I want to use my skills and enthusiasm to put something back into the community where you and I live. And that’s why I am standing in the Borough Council elections on 2nd May.
I have met so many residents on the doorstep and understand the issues that they face. Some of these I have already managed to solve by being active and taking appropriate action.
Many residents will already know me as the Vice Chair of the Parish Council, and through my monthly weather reports.
The status quo is not good enough. It’s time to demand better for our area. Please give me the opportunity to work alongside Prue Bray and Rachelle Shepherd-DuBey in representing you and doing what is the best interests of our community. Thank you.

Philip Houldsworth, Conservative
Philip was born in Yorkshire, and educated at Ripon Grammar School. After a short spell in the family catering business he decided on catering management as his career, and joined ICI in Billingham in the catering team.
This led to larger roles heading up catering at Colleges of Education; and then managing the Graduate Centre for the University of Cambridge. He went on to be Employee Services Manager for Ford of Britain based at European HQ Warley in Essex, and finally became UK CEO of a Reading-based global facilities services company.
Philip moved to Wokingham in 1982 and became involved in local politics, elected to Berkshire County Council in 1985 and again in 1989 where he was Chairman of Environment. After a break from politics he was elected to Wokingham Town Council in 2005 and in 2011 was elected Borough Councillor for Winnersh.
He has served on the Health Overview and Scrutiny committee and as Deputy Executive member for Affordable Housing, serving as Chairman for 4 years of the Affordable Housing Implementation Group (AHIG). He continues to serve on the Tenant and Landlord Improvement Panel.(TLIP).
He was elected Deputy Chairman of the Overview and Scrutiny Management Committee in 2018 and Chairman in 2019.
He has two Daughters, one a sergeant in Surrey Police and the other running a successful online retail business. And – he has an 11-year-old grand-daughter, who is an accomplished stage performer!
Stephen Lloyd, Green

Steve Stanton, Labour

Steve has lived in Winnersh for 17 years.
He is married with three children who all attended local schools. Entrepreneur, socialist and dad, Steve is the driving force behind the Marvellous Festival, the largest social and cultural event in Wokingham Borough.
Steve founded Project Hougoumont UK, which restored the famous farmhouse on the site of the battle of Waterloo, and remains on the UK Committee.
Steve passionately believes in a mixed economy which provides the opportunity for everyone to have their own home, business and a fully funded welfare state.
“We need a real opposition in Wokingham as the Conservatives are simply out of touch with people who have real lives and real needs.”
