TWO hustings events will take place in Wokingham borough this week, with the first this evening.
Churches have teamed up to organise the events, offering people a chance to hear candidates’ views on a wide range of topics ahead of the general election on Thursday, July 4.
Both events will be moderated by church leaders.
The event tonight (Sunday, June 23) is for the Earley and Woodley Constituency.
Four candidates are expected to attend: Pauline Jorgensen for the Conservatives, Tahir Maher for the Liberal Democrats, Gary Shacklady for the Greens, and Yuan Yang for Labour.
This event will be chaired by Jon Salmon, the minister of Trinity Church in Chalfont Close, Lower Earley – where it will be held.
Doors open at 6.30pm, with the questions posed from 7pm. At the end, 8.30pm, there will be an opportunity to meet candidates.
On Wednesday, June 26, there will be a hustings for the Wokingham constituency, organised by Churches Together in Wokingham.
This will be held at All Saints Church in Wiltshire Road, and moderated by the Revd Lynn Green, a member of Wokingham Baptist Church in Milton Road and also the national secretary of the Baptist Union of Great Britain.
Lucy Demery (Conservatives), Monica Hamidi (Labour), Clive Jones (Liberal Democrats) and Colin Wright (Reform UK) will be attending.
Doors open at 7pm, with questions starting at 7.30pm.
