A CHARITY that funds research in to better treatments and a cure for Parkinson’s, invites borough residents to walk with them.
People across the Thames Valley can join Parkinson’s UK at the Culden Faw Estate near Henley, for a fundraising event to help support the group’s work.
The walk offers two distances that explore the woodlands and fields of the Culden Faw Estate.
A shorter, family friendly one mile route is fully accessible, while a longer six mile trail is suitable for those wanting more of a challenge.
The event will start and finish at Henley Showground.
Participants will warm up and set off together, before finishing at their own pace.
Drinks, support and information about Parkinson’s will also be available from the local Parkinson’s community.
Katy Slade, Regional Fundraiser for the Thames Valley at Parkinson’s UK, said:
“Parkinson’s is the fastest growing neurological condition in the world.
“In the Thames Valley alone there are 4,866 people living with the condition.
“Every hour, two more people in the UK are diagnosed, meaning one in 37 people alive today will be diagnosed with Parkinson’s in their lifetime.
“There’s no cure for it yet.
“But if we walk together, we can make a difference to the lives of those living with the condition.
“We can make breakthroughs.
“We can find a cure. “
People are invited to join up for the walk, whatever their age or fitness level.
It takes place at Henley-on-Thames Showground in the Culden Faw Estate on Sunday, October 8.
Participation costs £12 for adults, with under 18s free of charge.
Walkers receive a fundraising pack with tips and advice, sponsorship forms and an exclusive Walk for Parkinson’s t-shirt to wear on the day.
