READING WOMEN ended top of their Continental Tyres Cup group with a 5-0 thrashing of Millwall Lionesses.

Needing just a point to ensure they were seeded for the quarter-final draw, Royals left nothing to chance with another dominant display.

Brooke Chaplen broke the deadlock before the break and three goals in 13 second half minutes from Rachel Furness (2) and Lauren Bruton took the game away from Millwall.

Chaplen completed the rout to extend Reading’s unbeaten run to eight games.

Rachel Furness bagged a brace

Elsewhere, WARGRAVE LADIES are out of the Jubilee Cup after a thrilling 8-5 defeat against Warsash Wasps.

Millie Bilcliff bagged a treble for the hosts with Sian Blissett and Alison Richardson also on target, but Warsash eased to victory thanks to five goals from Megan Fox.

WOKINGHAM AND EMMBROOK LADIES are also out, losing 7-2 to AFC Bournemouth CST at Lowther Road, but EVERSLEY AND CALIFORNIA did progress in the Thames Valley Counties League Cup with a 5-1 win over Guildford Saints.

On Saturday, READING made it four games unbeaten with a 3-1 win away at Sunderland.

Facing a side who had not won a home game in 2017, Royals raced clear in the second half following a red card for Callum McManaman with Mo Barrow netting a brace after Dave Edwards had given Jaap Stam’s men the lead.

Former Royal Lewis Grabban pulled one back, but Reading held on to climb up to 14th in the table.

BINFIELD bounced back from midweek defeat with a 3-2 victory over Longlevens.

Ian Davies continued his fine scoring season

The Moles suffered a nightmare first half on Wednesday evening as they lost 7-3 to Royal Wootton Bassett Town, but they were level at the break on Saturday thanks to Sean Moore’s strike.

Moore was later sent off, but Binfield claimed the win with Josh Howell and Ian Davies on target.

WOODLEY UNITED slipped to 17th in the table after a 6-0 thumping at the hands of leaders Highworth Town and down in Hellenic One East, WOKINGHAM AND EMMBROOK lost 3-0 at Holyport.

On the rugby field, LONDON IRISH’S Premiership struggles continued with a 39-15 defeat at Gloucester.

The Exiles are now six points adrift at the foot of the table after their task was made harder by a first half red card handed to captain David Paice.

Petrus Du Plessis and Teofilo Paulo crossed the whitewash, but the tries came in vain.

REDINGENSIANS RAMS got straight back on the winning trail with a 29-17 success against Bury St Edmunds.

The Rams’ six-game winning run was halted last time out, but they got back on track at Old Bath Road with tries from Conor Corrigan, Greg Illingworth (2) and Andy Amor.

Meanwhile, BRACKNELL BEES are now seven games without a win after losing 5-3 at Streatham and on the basketball court, READING ROCKETS stayed in title contention with a 75-70 victory over Leicester Warriors at Rivermead.
