A YOUNG couple who eschewed holidays to get a foot on the ladder – and their dogs in their very own kennel – are celebrating after achieving their dream.
And the pair are praising the Help To Buy scheme for its roles in making their dreams come true.
Ben Carr (30) and Victoria Wilson (31) – a Digital Product Manager at Three and a Project Manager for SSE – had been living in a two-bed flat in Newbury and having to commute to Reading and Maidenhead every day.
But now they have bought in Croft Gardens, the new Hyde End Road development in Spencers Wood, and have more space than they know what to do with.
Their new four-bedroom home offers ample space for the couple and their much-loved French bulldogs, Ronnie and Gus.
Ben said: “We didn’t need more space immediately but knew we’d need it in the not-so distant future when we look to start a family. It was also important for us that we had somewhere where we were able to have the dogs, so outside space was important.
“Help to Buy was a huge boost for us and frankly we wouldn’t have been able to afford such a spacious property had it not been available.
“We also committed to each saving a set amount per month since Christmas 2015 and we stopped going on holidays and breaks together which were previously a big part of our life.”

And the couple said that their townshouse in Croft Gardens was perfect for them.
Ben added: “Vicki works in Reading town centre and I’m in Maidenhead so Reading was a good option for us both from a commute perspective. Being so close to the M4 is also a bonus as we both travel home to see families often.
“My favourite part about coming home is seeing Vicki happy that we’ve finally got a place that we can shape to be our own that we can start to put our own stamp on.”
He also praised the developer for its help while moving in.
“We would definitely recommend David Wilson to our friends and family, as the team were really helpful and always available to answer questions,” he said. “Little things such as the Sales team going out of their way to get us the specific shower that we wanted in the en-suite were greatly appreciated.”
Joining a welcoming neighbourhood, Ben and Victoria are already enjoying being at the heart of the Croft Gardens community and are part of a Facebook group where residents share tips with each other.
Ben added: “Our neighbours are all great. We’ve had them over for drinks and we’re arranging a pub trip together in the near future!”
Rob Allen, Sales Director at David Wilson Homes Southern, said: “Help to Buy has been a valuable asset for many homebuyers since its introduction and we’re thrilled that Ben and Victoria were able to use it effectively to settle into Croft Gardens.
“We have a wide range of properties available at the development to cater for a variety of buying profiles, which is perfect for a couple such as Ben and Victoria who have secured a larger home to accommodate a family in the future.”
There is currently a selection of two-, three- and four-bedroom homes available at Croft Gardens with prices starting from £279,000.
