Dancing in the aisles, fun and games are all promised at an evening of Celtic Funk, Folk and Americana music at a village church.
Twford-based band The Walnuts is performing the concert at St Nicholas Church, Hurst to raise funds for the church and for Alzheimer’s research.
The event starts in the historic pub opposite the church, The Castle Inn, at 6pm on Saturday June 15. The band’s fiddler will be playing and landlord Matt Brown’s special pizzas will be on sale.
Then the audience will carry their drinks over to the church, to the sound of the church bells, ready for the concert at 7.30pm. Drinks will also be available in the church and there will be a raffle.
At last year’s concert the music had audience members dancing in the aisles – and on the pews.
At one point bass guitarist and singer Davie McGirr of Knowl Hill, clad in high viz protective gear was racing round the church with a large net to catch hundreds of plastic balls being hurled at him.
Churchwarden Sue Payne is predicting an equally fun evening this year. “It’s great to have the church so alive, almost electric. The concert brings the church alive for the whole community.
“The church is not just for worship, it’s for use by the whole community. We’re opening up the church to the hearts of everyone, it’s part of the village. You don’t have to believe to belong to the community.”
