The winner of Clive Jones MP’s annual Christmas card competition, 6-year-old Evelyn-Mae Smith, attended Sir Linsday Hoyle MP’s ‘Member’s Christmas Card Competition Showcase’ in the Houses of Parliament this week.
Clive Jones’ Christmas card competition is held each year to showcase the artwork from primary school children across the Wokingham borough constituency.
On Wednesday 10 December, Evelyn-Mae Smith and parents Rachel and Ben were welcomed to the Palace by Clive Jones MP, who introduced the winner to the Speaker of the House of Commons.
Sir Lindsay Hoyle MP signed one of the cards featuring Evelyn-Mae’s design and congratulated her on winning the Wokingham MP’s competition.
Following the event in the Speaker’s House, Clive Jones then showed Evelyn-Mae and her family Westminster’s most important buildings, including the House of Lords and the Commons Chamber.
Following the tour, Clive Jones, the Liberal Democrat MP for Wokingham, said: “Evelyn-Mae did a fantastic job in designing the wonderful cover of my Christmas card this year, which is being posted through thousands of homes across the constituency.
“She is well deserving of this win, and the Speaker of the House of Commons was just as impressed by her hard work as I was.
“We had a wonderful morning with her family and I look forward to seeing the wonderful drawings Evelyn-Mae goes on to do in the future.”
