Fire fighters who have been tackling a major blaze at Wokefield Park Hotel will remain on site today as the fire still rages.
Although the blaze is still ongoing, fire crews say that it is under control and crews are now dampening down remaining hot spots.
A statement from Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service gives the latest on the status of the fire:
“Crews have been working throughout the night to deal with the fire at the De Vere Hotel, Wokefield Park, Mortimer. The incident is still ongoing but the fire is under control and crews are now damping down hot spots.
“Five pumps from Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service (RBFRS) plus one from Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service and five special appliances are currently in attendance.
“A section of the building has been damaged by the fire and building control experts from West Berkshire Council are also on site to make a structural assessment of the affected area.
“This is a protracted incident, and crews are likely to be on site throughout today and tonight.”
The blaze is thought to have started in a linen cupboard on the ground floor of the building at around 5.30pm last night. It then spread.
No one was injured and staff evacuated guests quickly. We understand that all were found alternative accommodation.
