Representatives from more than 60 voluntary groups came together last week for a special reception hosted by the Borough Mayor, Cllr John Kaiser.
The Mayor’s Voluntary Sector reception was hosted at the Oakwood Centre in Woodley.
The event is an opportunity for charity representatives to network, renew old acquaintances, and meet new ones. And the mayor also uses it as an opportunity to thank all the volunteers for work they do.

Attendees also enjoyed a speech by Liz McDaniel from the Me2 Club – the Mayor’s chosen charity for this year.
The Woodley-based charity enables children and young people with additional needs and disabilities from the borough to attend mainstream activity clubs.
The club does this by recruiting, training and developing volunteers to provide one-to-one support to young people (or two-to-one when required) at activities of their choice such as Cubs and Brownies, gymnastics, youth groups or swimming.
Me2 Club also trained volunteers to support young people by encouraging them to be independent.
Borough Mayor Cllr John Kaiser said: “During my year in office, I’ve had the honour to attend many community events and I’ve met so many unsung heroes.
“There are so many volunteers in our community who go above and beyond to help others less fortunate than ourselves. Many help in their spare time and with limited resources.
“I am so pleased so many volunteers could join me at the reception and I would like to publicly thank them for their contribution to our community which helps make Wokingham Borough such a great place to live and work.”
