THE WINNER of this year’s Wokingham Community Awards’ Community Volunteer Award is someone whose dedication, energy, and compassion have made a truly lasting difference in the community.
Anne King has been at the heart of many local projects, giving her time, skills, and enthusiasm to help make Wokingham a great place to live.
She played a leading role in transforming All Saints Church into the Space for All, where the Wokingham Community Awards have been held this year.
She helped raise the funds to bring the project to life, and managed much of the refurbishment work herself.
Thanks to her efforts, the building has become a thriving hub for events, including Wokingham Repair Cafe, concerts, workshops, and numerous community gatherings.
She has also served for many years as a Trustee of Wokingham United Charities, contributing to finance, maintenance, pastoral care and legal matters.
Her dedication, attention to detail, and care for others have touched countless lives, as she quietly makes things happen and brings people together.
Anne was unable to collect her award in person.
The Reverend Hannah Higginson, Rector at All Saints Church accepted it on her behalf.
She said: “Anne is very inspiring.
“She does an incredible amount of good in the community, and has been absolutely foundational in getting All Saints Church to where it is now.
“She did a huge amount to refurbish the church, and continues to do so, making it the flexible, welcoming space that it is today.
“She’s also very involved in Wokingham United Charities, and helped to establish Wokingham Repair Cafe, along with multiple other projects.
“I’m so thrilled for her, that she has won this award today.”
This award is sponsored once again by A B Walker funeral directors of Wokingham.
