WOKINGHAM & EMMBROOK moved away from the drop zone in the Combined Counties Premier North with victory over Wembley.
The game began with Wembley moving into Sumas territory but the game turned round and Sumas took a free kick.
Play swung from one side of the halfway line to the other a few times with Wembley near the Sumas’ area and pushing the ball out of play.
Sumas were awarded a free kick which Charlie Tuttle took hoping for a head but there was no contact.
This was followed by a spate of free kicks, one for hand-ball and the others for fouls and Sumas sent the ball into the Wembley penalty area but the defenders helped their team to escape.
Jermaine Heron fouled Aklobessi and then another free kick in mid-field saw a high ball enter Sumas area but there was a foul on a Wokingham player and Sumas avoided any problems from attacking forwards.
The next move was along the left wing but Paul Wood, Wembley’s keeper, intercepted the incoming cross into his area.
Sean Woodward at the other end cleared a ball when he was out of his area keeping it out of harm’s way.
Tuttle then took a shot but Paul Wood was able to claim the ball. Similarly, Fenmi-gil Yassine sent the ball directly to Woodward who sent the ball back upfield into the Wembley penalty area.
Soon after, Aklobessi who is nimble with his fee,t won the ball but his attempt at the target missed.
Enow Ojong managed to run through the Wembley field but got nowhere but the counter attack that ensued saw Yasinne shoot straight at Woodward.
Sumas played good football having worked up the left wing but Holder-Spooner missed out but then it was back to free kicks again.
Holder-Spooner shot direct at Wood and Sumas soon got a free kick from which Enow Ojong hit the bar missing an opportunity to take the lead.
However, without any real signs, Sumas attacked from the left wing and the cross was followed on the run from the right by Enow Ojong who nodded in the ball which was conveniently at head height in the 65th minute.
This put Sumas in the lead albeit slender. Will Shaw closed in as Sumas continued to haunt Wembley’s area but the defence contained the situation and cleared the ball away.
Wembley went on the attack but somehow the ball went into the visitors half and Sumas were caught offside after which Sanchez Parkes received a yellow card in the 83rd minute. Bossman took a shot and missed as the ball sailed over the bar and Wembley were thwarted on the counter attack.
The final whistle blew with the hosts victorious as they earned three crucial points in their fight for survival.
