MEMBERS of a borough film club can enjoy the story of a mining village in the North East of England that has fallen on hard times after 30 years of decline.
Wokingham Film Society’s screening of The Old Oak paints a picture of a community whose last remaining pub is the only place to meet, and where the landlord is hanging on by his fingertips.
When Syrian refugees are placed in the village without notice a drama unfolds, as the two struggling communities work to understand and accept each other.
Ken Loach directs, and the film stars Dave Turner, Ebla Mari, and Claire Rodgerson.
The event takes place at The Whitty Theatre, Luckley Road, on Thursday, March 28.
Doors open at 6.45pm, with the film starting at 7.30pm.
Tickets cost £4 for members, and £6.50 for non-members.
