A COLLECTION to help provide emergency food parcels this Christmas was hailed as a huge success.
Volunteers from Wokingham’s Foodbank invited shoppers visiting Tesco’s store in Finchampstead Road to donate items as they shopped over the first weekend in December.
On the way into the store they were handed a shopping list of essentials and on the way out they could donate the items they had bought.
The scheme is part of Tesco’s national food collection and sees the supermarket giant donate an additional 20% of the collection’s value to top-up the warehouse.
The Foodbank’s co-ordinator, David Atkinson, said: “Thank you so much.
“We’ve had a fantastic weekend collecting your wonderful donations of food, Christmas goodies and money to help us help our friends and neighbours in need this winter.
“Thank You, everybody who donated, we had some amazing donations, but large or small they are all very much appreciated.
“Thank you to all of our wonderful volunteers who gave up their time to stand in the cold collecting for the Foodbank.”
And Mr Atkinson also express his appreciation to the store for their help, which he said was “amazing”.
“Thank you Tesco! You provide amazing support, with the National Collection, with our permanent collection point and with the 20% donation you make to us, which really helps, covering some of the costs of running a Foodbank in Wokingham.”
