A WOKINGHAM mum who helped raise money to build a special community centre for disabled children and their families has been named the ITV Meridian West regional winner of the Pride of Britain Awards.
Jane Holmes, chief executive of Building for the Future, helped to spearhead a campaign to create Our House, a place where families can support each other and find out information about raising their disabled children.
The judges felt that it was clear that this was a much needed community facility for children and families and it is making a real difference to so many lives in Berkshire and beyond.
Jane, who lives in Wokingham, was announced as the regional winner on ITV New Meridian (West) this evening, and will now go on to join 16 other regional finalists vying for the ITV Fundraiser Award at the Pride of Britain awards in London later this month.
Jane said: “Oh wow. This is a total surprise. I can’t believe it. I’m so amazed.”
This year’s Daily Mirror Pride of Britain Awards, sponsored by Lidl, will be packed with breathtaking stories of heroism and courage, uplifting moments and hilarious surprises, where a host of well-known faces pay tribute to the nation’s unsung heroes.
Among A-listers who have taken part in the awards are David Beckham, Sir Elton John, Sir Paul McCartney, Prime Minister David Cameron, Kylie Minogue, Dame Helen Mirren and Ewan McGregor.
Peter Willis, founder of the Daily Mirror’s Pride of Britain Awards, said: “Many congratulations to Jane on her achievement. We’re delighted she will join us at the Pride of Britain Awards. It’s going to be a night to remember.”
The winner of the ITV Fundraiser Award will be announced live on the night of the ceremony, Monday September 28, which will be televised in early October on ITV in a two-hour special.
