Roll up, roll up for the greatest show in the borough.
The annual May Fayre is back on Monday and will see thousands of people descend on Wokingham for a day of fun and entertainment for all ages.
With the town centre closed to traffic, the streets become a fairground for the day. A large stage is being erected in Market Place behind the town hall, while charities are preparing stalls for a busy day of crafts, food, games and sharing information about the work they do.
Elms Field will host fairground rides, zorb balls, the Lions land train and plenty of other outdoor pursuits.
Street food will be served from a range of stalls and there will be magic shows, circus acts and live bands dotted around the town.
With the Galbraith-Stevens Barrel Organs, morris dancing and Circus Scene providing entertainment, there is something for everyone. Best of all, entry is free.
But the day isn’t just all fun and games. It has a serious purpose too.
The Wokingham Lions organise the day to help raise funds for charity. As well as offering the stalls to local organisations to raise funds for themselves, there will also be opportunties to support the Lions’ charities of the year: Camp Mohawk, Robbie The Robot — Prostate Cancer and Wokingham Homeless. There will also be opportunities to help people affected by the recent earthquake in Nepal.

Tim Hanton, from the Lions, said: “There is a tremendous amount of work that goes on behind the scene to put on such a wonderful event.”
Outgoing Wokingham town mayor, councillor Martin Bishop, said: “I would like to invite residents and visitors to visit Wokingham’s May Fayre during the first spring bank holiday weekend.
“This town event brings together local charities and organisations to offer lots of stalls and entertainment for the whole family to enjoy.”
