A festive performance from the Arborfield Military Wives Choir formed the focus for tonight’s Wokingham Living Advent Calendar.
The singers performed some Christmas tunes outside Maison Home in Bush Walk, off Peach Street, on the 18th day of the town centre’s Christmas countdown. They were directed by Dan Tickner.
The Arborfield Military Wives Choir comprises wives of serving and former service personnel. They are all amateur singers from a variety of backgrounds – some haven’t sang in a choir since school days whereas for others this is their second or third military wives choir.
Although the group was formed just two years ago they have quickly established a reputation for singing beautiful music. Due to the nature of military life it has ladies joining and leaving quite regularly and is always on the lookout for new members.
Their show was just one of a number of special events taking place in Wokingham town centre every day between now and Christmas Eve. A live performance will be held somewhere in Wokingham at 6.15pm or 4pm at weekends.
It’s a busy weekend for the Living Advent Calendar as there are three events to look forward to.
Tomorrow (Saturday) at 4pm, it’s the turn of Kaanaamaa to host the mystery entertainment.
Then, at 5pm, there will be an extra performance in memory of a musical director who passed away earlier this year.
At Code Boutique on Peach Street Gillie Tunley and a number of past members of Cloudglider will sing a selection of songs celebrating the life of Elisa Ghoebriel, creator of the group. Elisa along with Cloudglider members and associated acts were featured in past Living Advent Calendars.
On Sunday, the performance is a live nativity at Wokingham Theatre and is a ticketed event – all tickets have been snapped up, so the event is sold out. However, if you’ve like to attend a live nativity then, also from 4pm, ChristChurch is holding one at Montague Park. There will be mulled wine and hot chocolate to enjoy at the event.
