Clive Jones, the Liberal Democrat MP for Wokingham, has encouraged all residents to share their thoughts on banning social media for under-16s in the government’s consultation..
The Wokingham MP has responded to more than 1,000 emails from concerned residents in Wokingham to discuss the need for better online safety for children and young people.
The ‘Growing up in the online world: a national consultation’ is now open for the public to share their thoughts on measures including a minimum age limit for children to use social media and restricting features that encourage excessive use.
The MP fhas been campaigning for the Government to protect local children from harmful and exploitative content online.
Jones\ said: “The government has a duty to protect children from online harm nationwide, including here in Wokingham.
“I’m delighted that they have listened to the Liberal Democrats and our call for better safety protections for our children.
“Now, the power is in the hands of the public.
“I’m encouraging every parent, teacher, carer and young person living in the constituency to make your concerns known to the government.
“You deserve to have your voice heard.”
The national consultation closes on May 26, 2026.
