A WOKINGHAM retailer marked its change of ownership with a three-day event giving customers the chance to win a shopping voucher every 60 minutes.
Sharon Heselton, Wokingham Poundstretcher store manager, said: “Fortress has taken over Poundstretcher, and wants to make a difference.
“They’ve slashed our prices and brought in lots of branded products.
“To show people what is happening they held this mega event.
“Every hour, at a random time the store intercom buzzed and whoever was at till one at the time received a £10 voucher.
“And if no-one was there or at till two at that time, we gave the voucher to the next customer.
“It was always at a random time, so we never knew when the signal would come.
“We want to show new customers that we’re here, and that we’re really reasonably well-priced.
“And for our existing customers it’s a welcome back and an encouragement to keep shopping with us.”
Poundstretcher’s new owners, Fortress Investment Group, acquired the business in April 2024, adding to their portfolio of high street names, including Majestic Wine, Vagabond Wines, and Punch Pubs Group, in the UK.
Fortress says they are listening carefully to customers and colleagues, responding quickly to ideas and suggestions, lowering prices, and helping customers access favourite brands in all their Poundstretcher stores.
Changes to products and pricing have seen 800 permanent price cuts on many product categories across the store since April this year.
Hundreds of 99p lines will help customers’ budgets to go further, along with deals on big brand products, such as: Coca Cola, Walkers Crisps, Cadbury, Radox, Listerine, Surf, Pedigree, and Felix products.
“Customers will notice our new prices, and a lot of new branded products in store,” continued Sharon.
“Fortress has already dropped hundreds of our prices, with more to come.
“And we’re expanding our product range, too – we’ll be moving into electricals – we’ve already got air fryers in.
“The aim is for every store to have all the essentials so that people can do their weekly shop in one place.
“We want our price drops to help everyone’s budget and for this to become the go-to place to shop.”
