Wokingham has been ranked as the second cleanest area in the United Kingdom, according to research released to mark this week’s Recycling Week.
Experts at Utility Bidder analysed a range of factors, including CO2 emissions, environmental expenditure, city cleanliness, park quality, ‘Britain in Bloom’ groups and ‘It’s Your Neighbourhood’ groups per 100,000 residents, as well as the number of recycling-related searches per 100,000 residents, to reveal the cleanest areas in the country.
Wokingham received an overall cleanliness score of 7.79 out of ten, marginally behind County Durham which received a score of 7.84 and topped the list.
Wokingham also ranked well in terms of carbon emissions. It was found to emit around 3.5 tonnes of CO2 per capita, ranking it as the area with the 29th lowest carbon footprint.
Neighbouring Reading was ranked in 15th place overall while Slough was ranked bottom of the list with a cleanliness score of just 1.15.
Data was analysed from a variety of sources to create the ranking, including Numbeo, government websites, the Royal Horticultural Society and Google.
