A ROYAL Berkshire Fire and Rescue team cordoned off part of Broad Street in Wokingham early on Wednesday evening, May 14, where the road meets Rose Street.
The cause of the closure, a source said, was a piece of guttering that fell from the premises from which Wokingham business Wild Card operates.
The premises are privately, not council owned.
One social media contributor said they understood that no-one was hurt, and that the road closure was a precaution.
While one person commenting online said that traffic had been ‘awful’, another said that the road was reopened by 6.45pm.
Wokingham Borough Council Traffic and Travel confirmed the incident had taken place, and said drivers should expect delays if travelling into Wokingham that evening.
They recommended avoiding the area, and seeking alternate routes if possible.
One online contributor says that with planned overnight closures of the A329, it is to be hoped that some kind of alternative route will be planned.
(The A329(M) is closed overnight between Winnersh Triangle and Coppid Beech roundabout, in both directions every night until Friday, May 23, from 7pm each day until 6am the following morning to allow resurfacing work.
A diversion is currently in place via the North Wokingham Distributor Road and A329 Reading Road.)
