Thames Valley Police has launched a murder investigation following the death of an elderly woman in Lower Earley. An 88-year-old man has been arrested in connection with this incident.
Forensic investigators were called in after a woman’s body and a seriously injured man was discovered at a house in Elm Lane.
The force is on the scene, having established a cordon. Earlier today, the Air Ambulance was called in to take the injured man to hospital, while the woman was declared dead at the scene.
Both the man and the woman are in their 80s.
Thames Valley Police say they were called to the Elm Lane address around 11.25am today (Saturday, November 21) by the ambulance service.
The woman was dead, while the man had injuries to the stomach and was been airlifted to the John Radcliffe hospital in Oxford.
DCI Mark Glover is leading the investigation.
He said: “This is a very early stage in the investigation and we are in the process of determining the circumstances leading up to this woman’s death and the man’s injuries. However at this stage it appears to be an isolated incident with no other party involvement.
“Next of kin have been informed. Forensic examinations are taking place at the property and officers are likely to be there for some time. We would like to thank the local residents for their patience and tolerance while we carry out our investigation.”
A man, aged 88, was arrested this afternoon on suspicion of murder and is currently in custody.
Thames Valley Police said that you have any concerns or information about this incident then please speak to our officers on patrol or call 101.
