The new community centre at Arborfield Green will be part of a wider district centre with 18 shops, 206 new homes and more.
Taylor Wimpey is now working on this following a transfer of the land, while a new Sainsbury’s supermarket opened on the site several months ago.
A pond at the end of the new pedestrianised high street has now been dug out, with work on a large new village green with paths set to start next year.
A spokesperson for Wokingham borough council said: “The scheme has scope for a pub and the developer is in talks with potential tenants, though no agreements have been reached.
“It’s hoped that the former military stables to the north of the site will be brought into some form of community use, with allotments alongside them.”
