A WOKINGHAM crochet group has been hard at work making poppies by the hundreds.
The Barkham Hookers will be covering 18 borough post boxes with special D-Day themed crocheted toppers.
They will also be decorating Arborfield’s three life-sized horse sculptures with 600 purple poppies, to recognise animals lost or hurt in wars around the world.
Barkham Hookers leader Gaynor White, said: “Giant poppies will be available to buy after the D-Day celebrations, with the proceeds going to the Royal British Legion.
“And we’ll also be in Wokingham Market Place on June 6 for the D-Day event, at the Wokingam Poppy Appeal, selling poppy brooches with genuine forces buttons at their centres.”
The group has raised more than £60,000 for charity over the last 10 years.
Their yarn creations can be seen from Saturday, June 1, ready for D-Day on June 6.
