FANS of Madness will be willing the time to pass quickly because One Step Behind, the group’s longest surviving tribute group is coming to the borough in the summer.
One Step Behind (OSB) must be doing a good job of recreating the sounds of Madness, because at one Manchester gig, Madness legend Suggs even felt the need to say to the audience: “By the way, we’re Madness, not One Step Behind,” before adding, “It’s a huge honour to have One Step Behind playing for us in Our House – they’re bound to make it a House of Fun.”
Formed in spring 1993, One Step Behind achieved recognition in a short time, playing venues across Britain, Europe and beyond.
Members of Madness have joined them on stage on a number of occasions.
When Madness Drummer Dan Woodgate joined the band on stage for One Step Beyond, he told them: “That’s exactly what we used to be like – you’ve got it to a tee.”
The OSB musicians have also appeared on television a number of times.
Singer Ian Soulsby made an appearance on Stars In Their Eyes in the 1990s, while the whole band appeared on children’s Saturday morning show SMTV with Ant and Dec in 1998, performing their version of Driving In My Car.
They also featured on a Tribute Band Night, filmed in Rotterdam and broadcast on Dutch TV in 2004.
And at the 2006 Proms party in Hyde Park, London they performed to around 50,000 people, with a television audience in the millions.
In 2023 they celebrated 30 years together, and in June this year they will be guests of Wokingham Music Club.
Fans can hear them play at the Royal British Legion, Winnersh, on Friday, June 14.
Doors will open at 7pm, with show time at 8pm.
