Woosehill athlete Josh Zeller lost out in the semi-finals of the World Athletics Under-20 Championships in Finland.
Former Forest School pupil Zeller was the youngest member of Team GB that headed out to Tampere and he made a flying start to his competition, winning his 110m hurdles heat in a time of 13.59 seconds.
That was the fifth fastest time of the whole round and he finished well clear of heat rivals Frenchman Jeanice Laviolette, David Ryba of Czech Republic and Japan’s Kentaro Hiraga.
But the 17-year-old, who told The Wokingham Paper last week he was aiming to reach the final, fell short in the semis, finishing fourth with a disappointing time of 13.91, 0.16 seconds off the top two qualifying spots which were occupied by American Cory Poole and Anastas Eliopoulos of Canada.
It has been a successful couple of years for one of GB’s rising stars with Zeller winning silver at the Junior Gala in Mannheim last month, following on from a silver medal at the English Schools Games in 2017.
He is hoping to progress high enough up the rankings when he becomes a senior hurdler to compete at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
