THE COMPANY that handles the borough’s waste is encouraging residents to get behind this week’s Recycle Week.
Running until Sunday, September 29, the campaign, called Recycle Now, aims to help get more items reused.
And re3, which runs facilities in Reading and Bracknell, says that it has been inspired by Sir David Attenborough’s TV programme Our Planet, as well as actions by teenager Greta Thunberg.
It says that one of the most important practices that help to reduce greenhouse emissions is waste prevention and recycling and, thanks to the enhancement to the service, re3 says that residents can now do even more in the fight against climate change.
Introduction of plastic pots, tubs and trays recycling was very well received and the re3 Partnership noted a significant – almost 60% increase in plastic recycling compared to last year.
And re3 ensures that all plastic is processed in the UK, not abroad.
Its top tips for recycling in Bracknell, Reading and Wokingham:
- Recycle more of these items: fruit punnets, meat trays, yoghurt pots, plastic milk bottles, shampoo bottles, aerosols or foil trays;
- Make sure these never go in the recycling bin/box: bagged waste, carrier bags, glass, black plastic trays.
- Remember to recycle your glass and textiles at the recycling banks located near parks and supermarkets.
