A DINNER dance raised thousands of pounds that will help promote better understanding of dementia.
Borough residents and friends Tracy Taplin and Nina Warden organised a black tie event in Wokingham in aid of Twyford-based charity Understanding Dementia.
Their dinner dance at St Martin’s Golf Club raised £6820 for the charity for carers and friends of people living with dementia.
Tracy said: “I wanted to raise money for Understanding Dementia, so that other family carers like me, can benefit from their free training as much as we have.
“The course gave us such insight into how best to support and look after my mum and it made such a difference.
“Our home is a happier home for me attending the course.”
The fundraising event included entertainment from singer Marc Hockley, a hot buffet dinner, an auction, a raffle, and dancing until midnight.
Understanding Dementia fundraising, marketing and training officer Lucy White, said: “Tracy and Nina have worked extremely hard to make this event a success, and the charity is hugely grateful for everyone’s fundraising efforts.
“Events such as these help to raise vital funds so we can reach every family dementia carer that we possibly can with our free training and support.”
Understanding Dementia was formed in 2018 to bridge the gap between awareness of dementia and a real understanding of the condition.
The group provides free interactive online and in-person training for families and friends of people with the condition.
The charity also offers paid-for training for Health and Care Professionals.
