RESIDENTS, families, and colleagues at Signature at Caversham, a care home north of Reading, have come together for a meaningful cause, organising a successful collection of school uniforms to support Wokingham charity The Cowshed.
The Wokingham charity provides free, good quality clean and ironed clothes and other essentials to families across Berkshire who may be struggling financially.
Many households across Wokingham are experiencing pressures arising from the cost of living, with one in six children in the area living in poverty.
Client Liaison Manager Karen Fleming from Signature at Caversham said: “At our home, we believe in giving back to our communities.
“Our residents and their families are always willing to support us in these important initiatives, and we’re thrilled to see how generous everyone is.
“We’re always happy to hear from any community groups that may need a little help, and we’ll lend a hand where we can.
“Our team hopes this initiative will inspire others to support local charities like The Cowshed and continue strengthening our community ties across Berkshire.”
Beyond the material support it offers, The Cowshed focuses on preserving the dignity and self-esteem of those in need, by ensuring that the clothing they provide is of high quality, helping individuals feel valued and cared for during difficult times.
Signature’s initiative to organise the clothes collection was prompted by a social media post from the charity.
It resulted in the donation of 11 full bags of school uniforms, primarily brand new, with some pre-loved items included.
Residents, their families, and colleagues all played a significant role, with several individuals going above and beyond to contribute.
Special thanks from the home go to resident Brian, and resident Susie’s husband, whose generous cash donations enabled the purchase of additional school uniforms, ensuring even more children were able to be well prepared at school.
