Wokingham Fireworks Charitable Trust held a presentation evening at Wokingham Town Hall on Wednesday, December 4, where the main beneficiaries received their cheques and talked about their charities and how these funds would help them.
Also present were Wokingham Borough Mayor, Adrian Mather and Wokingham Town Mayor, Rob Comber.
The Trust is made up of representatives from four local service clubs, Easthampstead Rotary Club, Wokingham Lions Club, Wokingham Rotary Club and Windsor Forest Unicorn Club.
David Gold, chairman of The Trust announced that an amazing record amount had been raised at Wokingham Fireworks 2024 and as a result each service club would receive £10,000, plus a further £750 each for both The Borough Mayor’s and Town Mayor’s charities, a total of £41,500.
David talked about the event and said: “The last ticket was bought online just before 5 o’clock, making this the third year running that all 10,000 tickets were sold.
“The evening could not have gone better. The weather was kind, torches and glow products sold out, the extra catering stalls enjoyed brisk business, and the display itself was breathtaking.”
He continued: “It is important to remember these funds represent more than just numbers. We are not just providing financial assistance; we are providing additional support for those who are less fortunate than ourselves and who rely on the generosity of our collective efforts.
“I would also like to thank the charities who are benefiting tonight, your commitment, passion, and dedication are truly inspiring, and we are proud to support your efforts”.
Each of the main beneficiaries received a cheque for £5,500. Easthampstead Rotary Club chose, Bracknell, Wokingham and Ascot Samaritans, whilst DEBRA, also known as ‘The Butterfly Skin Charity’ was the choice of Windsor Forest Unicorn Club. Wokingham Lions Club’s support went to Keep Mobile Community Transport and Wokingham Rotary Club had nominated Home Start Wokingham. The remaining proceeds given to each club from Wokingham Fireworks 2024, will be distributed by the clubs to other charities and good causes over the coming months.
Wokingham Borough Mayor, Adrian Mather presented First Days Children’s Charity with their cheque.
He said he chose First Days as his charity this year, as he could remember growing up and seeing children whose families obviously struggled to provide adequate school uniform, leading to those children being discriminated against. He said First Days gave back dignity to struggling families in our community.
Wokingham Town Mayor, Rob Comber has chosen SHARE Wokingham as his charity this year. Rob said he had wanted to support a local charity that helped local people and was delighted to have chosen SHARE, as their aims really struck a chord with him.
