A community is celebrating the reopening of their village store which closed about 10 months ago.
The Baweja Superstore had a Grand Opening this morning (Thursday October 9) at Wards Cross, the A321, at Hurst.
A store has stood on the site for about 100 years.
Kamal Baweja, whose family now runs six stores in the south of England, told the villagers: “We’re thrilled to open the the brand new Baweja Superstore.
“I will be running the Hurst store with the help of staff.”
It was going to be an unforgettable day of celebration, exclusive giveaways and fantastic discounts.
He didn’t think it was going to be possible for the post office to reopen.
At the opening former waitress at the Green Man pub, Hurst, Ash Mantel said: “It’s brilliant that we have a local shop again.”
Many other villagers have given the new shop a big welcome, one saying: “We missed having a shop. Good luck to you.”
The shop has been refurbished and has a wide range of groceries, stationery, toilettries, cleaning products, soft drinks, frozen food, spirits and a cooled ‘beer cave’ area.
Wokingham MP Clive Jones called in to the reopening of Hurst’s village store. Mr Jones said: “I do wish them well. It’s good to have the shop open again. When you do your supermarket shop you always forget to buy something.”
A grand opening raffle‘s prizes include in-store credit prizes of £100, £75 and £50. Everyone is invited to the raffle draw at 7pm today.
The store will be open Monday to Saturday 7am to 9pm and on Sunday 7am to 7pm.
