The Tamarind Tree, an Indian restaurant in Wokingham town centre, has announced the death of its co-founder, Koush Miah.
Mr Miah passed away on the evening of Thursday 8 January at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading following a short illness. He was surrounded by family and close friends at the time of his death.
In a statement, the restaurant said it hoped valued customers would remember happy times with Mr Miah. The Tamarind Tree confirmed it would continue to operate as normal, with the team working to maintain the welcoming atmosphere he helped create.
Mr Miah was widely respected in the local community for his contribution to Wokingham’s dining scene.
Hundreds of people took time to leave comments on the Tamarind Tree’s post on Facebook, paying tribute to Mr Miah.
Koush was a familiar face at Wokingham town business events.
Mark Ashwell, Wokingham Borough Council’s executive member for business, told Wokingham Today: “This is extremely sad news.
“Koush was a welcoming and friendly face in the town, and we send our condolences to his friends and family”.
Floral tributes have also appeared outside the restaurant.
