WOULD-BE thieves used a Porsche Cayenne to bash down a window to a Wokingham town centre supermarket in a bid to steal a cash machine.

The incident took place in the early hours of Wednesday, February 28 and now police have launched an appeal for information in a bid to track the thieves down.

Around 3am, the gang drove the black Porsche Cayenne into the windows of the Waitrose Store in Rectory Road in their bid to heist the free standing cash machine. However, police said that they fled empty handed.

They left the car outside the store, close to the new Sedero Lounge cafe bar.

Police sealed the area off on Wednesday to conduct their investigation, and have now released more information.

Thames Valley Police’s investigating officer, Detective Inspector Mike Bettington, said: “We are appealing for witnesses to come forward who might have seen this incident take place or any suspicious activity involving a Porsche Cayenne over the days in the lead up to the incident.

“Crime scene investigators and detectives have now completed their initial enquiries at the scene and the store remains open for business as usual.

“The offenders did not get away with any cash and the vehicle has now been recovered by police. Enquiries are ongoing to identify and locate those responsible.”

Anyone with information relating to this case, is asked to call 101 quoting reference ’85 28/02/18′, or to contact Crimestoppers anonymously.
