MIDFIELDER Liam Kelly has left Reading to join Dutch side Feyenoord on a three-year deal.
Kelly joined Reading as a schoolboy in 2004 before signing his first professional contract with the Berkshire club in 2013. He made his professional debut in August 2016 in the EFL Cup against Milton Keynes Dons and went on to make 94 appearances for the Royals, scoring nine goals.
The Irish midfielder will be reunited with former Reading manager Jaap Stam, who lead the Royals to the Championship play-off final in 2016/17 in his only full season in charge of the club.
Kelly became a favourite of Stam’s during his time at the Madejski Stadium, however fell out of favour after Stam left the club in March 2018.
Kelly issued a farewell statement to the Reading fans on Instagram: “From a boy to a man. From a fan to a first team player. It’s been my home since I signed as an 8 year-old boy, 15 years later, it’s time to say goodbye. Thank you Reading FC for an unforgettable journey.”
