Having been regular diners at Rangamati in Winnersh for many years, my family and I were keen to discover whether the restaurant had retained the high standards we remembered so fondly.
Now known as Ranga Lounge, the Indian and Bangladeshi restaurant and takeaway is located at 25 Denmark Street, Wokingham. The restaurant has long been part of the local dining scene and, after almost 30 years serving the community from its former Winnersh/Reading Road location, it has recently relocated to Wokingham town centre, officially opening its new premises in October 2025.
The menu showcases a wide-ranging selection of Indian and Bangladeshi cuisine, from classic curries and fragrant biryanis to sizzling tandoori dishes and tempting chef’s specials. Stepping inside Ranga Lounge, the first impression is of a small, cosy dining space that feels warm and welcoming — an intimate setting that immediately puts you at ease along with a super friendly weolcome we were shown to our table.
We were all pleasatly surpriced by the extensive menu, catering for all tastes.
We started with the obligatory poppadoms, crisp and fresh, accompanied by a selection of classic condiments.

We decided to share starters starting with Puri – Prawn (£5.95)Lightly spiced, sweet-and-sour prawns served atop crisp, deep-fried unleavened bread. The combination of juicy, flavourful prawns with the golden, crunchy puri created a delightful contrast of textures and flavours — a perfect starter to share.
We also enjoyed sharing Mixed Kebab Starter (£6.95) A tempting selection of tandoori-grilled chicken tikka, lamb tikka, and seekh kebab. Each piece was beautifully marinated and cooked to perfection, offering smoky, succulent flavours that melted in the mouth — a hearty and satisfying way to start the meal.
For the main course, my husband, a fan of curries with a real kick, opted for the Bahari – Chicken (£11.95). Tender chicken pieces cooked in a crushed chilli sauce delivered a bold, spicy punch, beautifully balanced with rich, aromatic flavours. Fiery yet perfectly rounded, the dish is a treat for anyone who enjoys a little heat. The generous portion of chicken made it both satisfying and indulgent — my husband didn’t hesitate to give it a 10/10!
I chose the Chicken Tikka (£9.95), and it did not disappoint. Large and plentiful, the succulent chicken pieces were marinated to perfection and skewered alongside vibrant tomatoes, onions, and capsicums, then grilled in the tandoor to achieve a smoky, charred finish. Served literally sizzling with refreshing mint sauce and a crisp side salad, each bite burst with flavour, offering a perfect balance of spice and smokiness. I enjoyed this dish immensely — it was truly a highlight of the meal.

Our son, with his very large appetite and a true connoisseur’s appreciation for Biryani, opted for the King Prawn Biryani (£13.95). Prepared with the finest Basmati rice from the lowland foothills of the Himalayas, this biryani is a fragrant, aromatic masterpiece. A generous amount of plump, juicy king prawns were layered with delicately spiced rice, garnished with fresh herbs, and served alongside the restaurant’s special vegetable curry. Each mouthful offered a perfect harmony of textures and flavours — subtly spiced, fragrant, and utterly satisfying — and he thoroughly enjoyed every bite.
Last but not least, our daughter, who isn’t keen on heavy sauces, chose the Tikka Main £9.25 Marinated, tender pieces of chicken were expertly grilled in the tandoor, served with refreshing mint sauce and a crisp side salad. The smoky, charred flavours of the tandoor-cooked meat were perfectly complemented by the light accompaniments, making it a simple yet satisfying choice that she thoroughly enjoyed.
Overall, Ranga Lounge left a very positive impression. The restaurant was bustling with takeaway orders, reflecting its popularity, yet the staff remained the epitome of friendliness and professionalism throughout our visit. The food arrived promptly, piping hot, and beautifully presented, while the atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming. With its generous portions, bold flavours, and attentive service, we would highly recommend Ranga Lounge to anyone seeking an authentic and satisfying Indian and Bangladeshi dining experience.
