A care home in Wokingham borough has enabled two residents to relive their past careers through an afternoon of science experiments.
Shinfield View, part of the Berkley Care Group, held a science experiment session led by two of its residents, both with extensive backgrounds in the field of science.
The residents, Keith and Daphne, used their experience to engage in a hands-on activity, creating a volcano using everyday household materials.
Keith holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Sheffield and worked in electrical engineering and the Royal Air Force (RAF) for more than 30 years before retiring.
Daphne worked as a lab assistant at the Royal Aircraft Establishment (RAE) in Farnborough.
As part of the experiment, both residents wore white lab coats.
They were keen to apply their scientific expertise to the experiment as they still show a strong interest in science, regularly participating in the home’s related activities.
Commenting on the afternoon’s events, Laura McSoley, Shinfield View’s Activities Coordinator, said: “It was such a delight to give Keith and Daphne the opportunity to reconnect with their past careers and give them an activity they have such a passion for.
“It was incredible to see their enthusiasm and expertise shine as they led the experiment, engaging the entire home in such a hands-on and educational activity.
“It’s these cherished moments and shared experiences that make our home truly special.
“At Shinfield, we always strive to organise engaging events which help to create more and more lasting memories.”
