A TWYFORD-based charity is preparing to hold its annual fundraising Barn Dance.
With an experienced caller to lead people through the steps, a ploughman’s supper and a raffle and pay bar, Understanding Dementia says people are in for a good night of dancing at their ceilidh.
“The emphasis is very much on having fun – not necessarily getting all the steps right – and children are very welcome,” said Lucy White, Understanding Dementia’s fundraising, marketing and training officer.
“The barn dance is such a lovely community event.
“It brings people together for a night of dancing while raising funds so that we can continue to help, support and advise as many family dementia carers as we can free of charge.”
The charity offers free training and support for dementia carers, whether they are family or friend supporting someone within their home or from a distance, and regardless of whether there is yet a dementia diagnosis.
It also offers paid-for training for Health and Care Professionals.
Understanding Dementia’s founder and lead trainer Shirley Pearce said: “We are hugely grateful to our event sponsors Sonning Gardens Care home and The David Brownlow Charitable Trust; and also to our dance sponsors and everyone who has donated raffle prizes.
“We are still looking for more dance sponsors and any contributions towards the food, so would love to hear from any local businesses who would like to support our event.”
The dance will take place at Loddon Hall, Twyford, on Saturday, June 7.
Tickets cost £15 for adults, and £10 for children (ticket price includes food, dancing and music from a traditional ceilidh band, Hullabaloo).
Doors are open from 7.30pm until 11pm.
The event has sold out in the past two years.
To avoid disappointment people are advised to buy tickets early, with the deadline for booking Saturday, May 31.
