A WOKINGHAM church has started a monthly service to help people to engage with God and nature.
The new afternoon meetings offered by All Saints Church, in Norreys, will take place outdoors rather than inside the church building.
The Revd Hannah Higginson, associate priest at All Saints said: “This is a new service we started in July.
“We realise that Sunday morning doesn’t work for everyone, and as a Silver Eco Church Award winner, we wanted to look at how green we are, and how well we look after our environment.”
The outside services are informal, intergenerational, and equally appropriate for adults and children.
“It’s a place to find peace, to pray, and to encounter God in the garden,” said Ms Higginson.
“Last month we focused on light shining in darkness, and we asked people to wander around the churchyard looking for examples of dark and light places.
“Not everyone feels comfortable coming into a church building, so this is an outdoors alternative.”
Ms Higginson has received positive feedback from those who came to the July meeting.
“People are pleased that we are offering something like this,” she said.
“They’ve told us that this is what they have been looking for.”
The services, called Wild Worship, will take place in the churchyard gathering space between the church and the Cornerstone building, on the third Sunday of each month.
The first meeting is on Sunday, August 20 at 4pm.
All are welcome, and meetings will take place whatever the weather.
