Borough residents, and motorists in particular, are kindly asked to be aware of temporary road closures that will support an annual charity event as the Reading Toy Run comes to town.
Early in December, a spectacular convoy of motor bikes will ride into Wokingham for their Annual Toy Run in aid of Barnardo’s and other children’s charities.
Event organisers, Reading Christian Motorcyclists, want to thank motorists in advance for their patience, and to apologise for delays that may be experienced as roads are closed on the route the bikes will follow.
This is the 39th Anniversary of the Toy Run and many children have benefited at Christmas, over the years, from the toys and gifts brought by the bikers.
The colourful convoy runs from Thames Valley Science Park, near Shinfield Studios, and ends up at at High Close School in Wokingham, where the riders deliver the toys to be distributed at Christmas.
Residents can line the route to watch and cheer the riders as they pass, many of whom will be dressed as Santa, elves, super heroes, and cartoon characters.
There will be no bucket collection along the route this year.
Instead, people can donate, if they wish, via a Just Giving Page.
Roads affected by Toy Run closures, on Sunday, December 7, are:
– The Shinfield A327 up to The Black Boy Roundabout and then Lower Earley Way to The Showcase cinema,
– The A329 Reading Road between the Showcase and Shute End,
and Rectory Road and Wiltshire Road to High Close School, Wokingham.
These closures will affect traffic on these, and adjacent roads too, from 1pm to 2.30pm.
