A HURST school celebrated everything to do with reading as its annual book festival returned for the 12th time.
The free event, held on Saturday, May 18, was open to the community as well as pupils attending Dolphin School. It saw authors and illustrators give readings and insights into their creative processes, as well as craft sessions and an opportunity to stock up on reading material.
Eileen Browne was among the people visiting, sharing the story of her stories in the Handa’s Surprise range of books.
Mariajo Ilustrajo gave a talk on her journey to becoming an award-winning illustrator before leading her whole audience in a drawing activity.
Jess Butterworth took her audiences on jungle adventures involving a lost orphan orang-utan, and, in a later session, survival on Gibbon Island.
Children could join in a monster-making craft session while storyteller Danyah Miller set up in Dolphin’s Hall for an audience-led, interactive storytelling journey.
The event ended with a quiz won by the Trayhorn family.
Dolphin School organised the Book Fest as part of its participation in National Literacy Week.
Other activities included a charity Pyjamarama Readathon in aid of Read for Good and BookTrust.
