A young baker to A list celebrities has launched her own cake shop in Wokingham borough.
Charlotte Wood, who baked global singing and actress star Ariana Grande’s 30th birthday cake, opened her shop in Hurst on Monday.
Up to 100 people, including many Hurst residents, flocked to buy coffee and cakes from Charlotte, 30, who has two children Ella, six and Rosie, four.
“It was a really lovely day, lots of people came to see us. It meant I met many local residents. There was a constant stream all day,” said Charlotte.
Charlotte and her husband run an electrical company used by the film industry. Work on the film version of the highly popular musical Wicked, coming out in November, brought her in touch with the stars.
“They found out what I do and I ended up making ten cakes, one for Ariana and one for actress and singer Cynthia Erivo who plays the green witch in Wicked. Other members of the cast and crew also asked for them. It was amazing,” said Charlotte from Warfield.
“I’ve been making cakes, including for birthdays and weddings, for about ten years from my house. It was taking up three rooms and I needed more space. Then I stumbled on this building for my cake prep kitchen.
“Then I decided to have a counter selling cakes, coffees, teas, croissants, sausage rolls and cold drinks to take away.” Her offering includes 10 flavours of rocky road cakes on rotation and cup cakes. Large celebration cakes can be ordered. Charlotte is in talks to sell fresh baguettes and sour dough loaves.
There was a huge reaction when she announced the new shop. “It went crazy, I didn’t expect that reaction from the local community. It seems likely the whole village is behind it,” she said.
The shop, next to Hurst Gospel Hall, in Broadwater Lane (the A321) at Whistley Green, Hurst, is open from 8am to 2pm Monday to Sunday, but not on Fridays.
Charlotte supplies cakes to nearby Fletchers Nursery at Ashridge Manor and Longacres Nursery at Bagshot.
