BARBARA is the first member of CLASP Wokingham to complete her 20th Anniversary Challenge.
The self advocacy group for people with learning disabilities in the Wokingham borough is two decades old, and to celebrate, members are carrying out a series of challenges throughout the year.
Michele Munro, independence support worker said: “All the pledges have something to do with the number 20, for example: baking 20 cakes, walking 20 miles, or doing 20 star jumps a day.
“We’re also aiming to enjoy 20 new experiences, some all together, some with our friends and some on our own.
“We have lots of exciting new things planned.”
Barbara’s creative challenge idea came to her when she found some Hama beads among her craft boxes, and decided she would like to create 20 different Hama bead designs and shapes.
“She started straight away, coming up with her own colours and shapes,” said Michele.
“She’s been busy completing between 2 and 5 designs each day, and is the first CLASP member to complete her 20th Anniversary Challenge.”

Barbara says that she found her challenge to be both therapeutic and enjoyable.
Michele continued: “Barbara has created some beautiful and colourful creations of many different shapes, including a fabulous one of the CLASP logo, after a suggestion from her sister Audrey, which is now proudly displayed in the CLASP office.
“We love her designs, and we’re all enjoying taking part in a range of fun challenges.
“Members, staff, volunteers and trustees alike are all getting involved – crocheting 20 hearts, completing 20 puzzles, making 20 handmade cards, visiting 20 new train stations, swimming 20 lengths for 20 weeks, losing 20lbs, visiting 20 new places by train that are at least 20 minutes away, and visiting 20 new heritage sites.”
CLASP runs a wide range of weekly social activities, a disability awareness training group Listen To Us, and a campaigning group Take Notice.
Run by its members, the group employs people with learning disabilities, and offers them voluntary opportunities.
Members receive one to one support, information, advice and signposting.
The group warmly welcomes new membership enquiries.
