A READING charity is celebrating after receiving a £1,000 boost from Benefact Group’s Movement for Good Awards, thanks to nominations from the public.

Berkshire MS Therapy Centre’s donation, given by Benefact Group comes as part of an annual campaign that gives more than £1 million to charities and good causes across the UK.

The grant will help the centre support more local people with MS through a variety of specialised therapies and emotional support.

Claire Frew, marketing and engagement officer at Berkshire MS Therapy Centre, said: “We were thrilled to receive this £1,000 donation through the Movement for Good Awards.

“Our Centre provided 14,920 treatments in 2024, treatments which make a huge difference to the quality of life of local people with MS and their families.

“We receive no NHS funding so we rely on fundraising to continue our vital work.

“We are so grateful to our members and the public for nominating us for this donation.”

MS is an unpredictable, neurological condition without a cure.

An estimated 1,000 people with an MS diagnosis live in the local area, out of around 150,000 across the UK.

It is the most common cause of disability among young people in the UK, and for every person diagnosed with MS another estimated 10 people (usually family and friends) are affected.

Movement for Good is funded by EIO plc, part of the Benefact Group, an award-winning family of more than 40 specialist financial services companies including Ecclesiastical Insurance and EdenTree asset management.

Mark Hews, Group Chief Executive of Benefact Group, said: “We want to thank everyone who nominated a good cause for our Movement for Goods Awards.

“Benefact Group is owned by a charity, and giving back is at the heart of everything we do – all our available profits go to good causes.

“Our mission is simple: the more we grow, the more we can give.

“It’s a privilege to support this incredible organisation, making such a difference in their community.

“We know £1,000 can go a long way in changing lives, and we can’t wait to see the impact this funding will have.”

Benefact Group is an independent, specialist financial services group that exists to give all its available profits to charity.

Owned by registered charity Benefact Trust, Benefact Group’s family of businesses provide specialist insurance, investment management and broking and advisory services in the UK, Australia, Canada and Ireland.

It has donated over £200m to charity since 2014 and is aiming to reach its target of giving £250m by 2025.
