NATIONAL Scrabble Day had residents at a Lower Earley care home reaching for their dictionaries.
Austen House staff and residents hosted a day-long Scrabble tournament, during which they enjoyed playing games and coming up with new ways to increase their scores.
The life enrichment team at the home said: “Our residents all love to play Scrabble.
“We regularly have a game on the go and we love a good debate about what is and isn’t a word.
Thank goodness we keep a dictionary on hand to settle things, because some of our residents have the most amazing vocabularies.”
General Manager at the home Simona Cioinac, said: “It has been a brilliant day and we have all enjoyed playing lots of Scrabble together.
“It’s amazing what you learn when you get together round a Scrabble board.
“Our residents have wiped the floor with me, which is no surprise – I really need to brush up my skills.”
Austen House says that its varied life enrichment programme keeps residents active, and provides a daily choice of physical, mental and spiritual activities.
The care home is run by Barchester Healthcare and provides nursing, residential, dementia and respite care.
