A consultation has opened into plans for a two-storey, 66-bed care home in Ruscombe.
LNT Care Development has submitted plans for land west of New Road for the home, together with associated access, parking and landscaping, on the vacant site of a former garden nursery.
Documents submitted with the application said “.. the LNT Group has developed a series of high-quality care homes nationwide, and has an excellent reputation for providing top quality care and accommodation.”
It said the proposed care home will offer those in need of care an improved quality and choice of accommodation, above that which is currently available within the local market.
“It would also assist in the delivery of a more sustainable and inclusive community in Ruscombe, Twyford.”
The proposed development will be situated between a cluster of residential dwellings to the north and south, and adjacent to New Road to the eastern boundary – which will provide access into the site.
“The proposals will allow the site to make an important contribution towards an identified need for new care accommodation and provide general residential and dementia care.
“It will be made available for local people in need of care and staffed by local people, in a highly appropriate, sustainable and accessible location.
“The proposed development is intended to be delivered and ready for occupation within 16 months of any planning permission being granted.”
The application notes the home would generate the equivalent of up to 60 full-time jobs, but that only 24 staff would be present at any one time.
It added: “These jobs, as well as resident’s local spending, will have a long-term positive impact on the local economy, particularly local businesses.”
The public consultation is open until June 5, 2024.
