Police have confirmed that a fight involving a group of youths led to a dispersal order and a heavy police presence in Reading town centre.
Thames Valley Police said officers were called to a public order incident outside the Hollywood Bowl near The Oracle on Saturday evening.
The force said the incident escalated into a fight and resulted in two arrests for public order offences. Both individuals have since been released on bail while enquiries continue.
A Section 34 dispersal order was put in place at around 10pm, giving police additional powers to clear people from parts of the town centre to prevent further disorder.
In a statement, a spokesperson for Thames Valley Police said: “This incident was a public order incident outside the Hollywood Bowl involving a group of youths, which escalated into a fight.
“Two people were arrested for public order offences and have since been bailed while the investigation continues.
“There were no serious injuries and the Section 34 order was put in place to prevent a repeat of the incident.
“There was an increased police presence in the area, and this minimised the risk to the public enjoying their nights out.”
Videos shared on social media showed at least a dozen police vehicles parked on Bridge Street near The Oracle shopping centre and Reading Borough Council buildings.
The dispersal order covered parts of the town centre between Queens Road and Vastern Road and remained in force until 7am on Sunday, when police confirmed it had expired.
Police said officers remained in the area overnight to provide reassurance and that no further incidents were reported.
