A BOROUGH music group’s Spring Concert promises variety and rarity.
The Wokingham Choral Society (WCS) programme includes familiar pieces, including: Elgar’s Serenade For Strings, Mendelssohn’s Hear My Prayer, and the Duruflé Requiem.
Less well known piece, Finzi’s Lo, The Full Final Sacrifice, will also be performed.
WCS Chair Katy Lethbridge, said: “One of the nicest things about this concert is its variety, both of the pieces, and the moods they reflect.
“The works come from different European countries, which gives them each a different flavour, lovely both to hear, and to perform.
“Finzi’s Lo is very striking, while the requiem, by constrast, is tender and hopeful.
“And we’ve got the Serenade for Strings, too, so there is plenty for audiences to enjoy.”
Professional soloists will be soprano Charlotte Bowden, tenor Jack Harberd and bass Freddie Crowley.
The pieces are usually performed and recorded with a solo organ backing but they have also been scored for choir, soloists and a small orchestra, including organ, strings, percussion, trumpets, and harp.
Orchestral versions are rarely heard, but will be performed by Chameleon Arts Orchestra, with organist Iestyn Evans.
The event takes place at Reading University Great Hall, on Saturday, March 23.
Doors open at 7.30pm, with tickets available at £17.50 for adults, or £5 for students and under 18s.
