WE FIND ourselves in turbulent times.
Many of us feel concern and anger on behalf of our brothers and sisters across the globe caught up in war and poverty.
Many of us are also holding tensions within our own personal circumstances, whether illness, grief or financial difficulty.
In these challenging times, I find myself desperate to see leaders who bring power and positive influence, to draw alongside those caught up in chaos.
And yet we are often let down by those in whom we put our trust.
Many leaders cling to power, instead of offering it to those in need.
We need more leaders who give power away, so that transformation is enabled, and hope can flourish.
It’s rare to find a leader with power eager to give it away – and yet – Jesus does just that.
He humbled himself, made himself nothing, and took the very nature of a servant here on earth, so that we may know God’s good purpose for us.
Jesus didn’t consider equality with God something to be used for His own advantage – a radical type of humility in leadership.
We live in the light of this knowledge; that Jesus came to serve, not to be served.
I pray that in turbulent times, you may look beyond our earthly leaders and find comfort in Jesus’ transformational humility as he gently leads you (Philippians chapter 5)
